THE GAME

The consummate in individual athleticism and rivalry, combined with the intelligence of a chess match and the brutality of boxing. Tennis has evolved from a game of gentlemanly competition to at times, a war of attrition. We will look at the sports in all its pain and glory – from the players to the supporters and everything else that is simply, tennis. We will be traveling from events played at the majors to the ATP and WTA events in North America and Europe. Here we will find the game played on its three-surface types – clay, grass and hard court. We will see the men and women who call the shot, chase down the balls and bring stunning images to global magazines, television and websites. Whether you are a fan of the sport or just a casual visitor, welcome to the wide world of tennis!

BARCELONA OPEN BANC SABADELL 2019

THE EVENTS

What we refer to as the majors are the four premium championship tournaments held in a calendar year. They are the Australian Open held in Melbourne, the French Open at Roland Garros held in Paris, the Championships held at Wimbledon and the final major of the year, the US Open held in New York City. The oldest of the majors is Wimbledon with its time worn tradition and grass courts. Besides these events, are the men's ATP 1000, ATP 500 and ATP 250 tournaments that run from January through December. The WTA occupies the women's events. It is a lot of tennis played across all continents. From the Asian swing to the North American swing, there is more than enough tennis to satisfy the fans. Here we will be looking at events mainly on the North American and European continent and one event held in the Middle East and we will be visiting cities in Marseille, Barcelona, Madrid, Vienna and Doha.

THE PLAYERS

THE SUPPORT

THE FANS

THE OTHERS

What would the game of tennis be without the involved fans, the support staff and the media? The players need the youthful speed and nimbleness of the ball person, the expertise of the chair umpire and of course, the media to make them look good in the instant replays, sports magazines and social media around the world. For better or worse, match outcome can depend on a call of the umpire or the readiness and attentiveness of a ball person. All of which is captured on the fast equipment of the cameraman. We remember all of these individuals here and give them a round of applause!
