Morocco

Salam! Did you know that long before students began to arrive on the prestigious grounds of Oxford and Cambridge, students studied at the numerous universities in Fes? It continues as the oldest existing and continually operating educational institution in the world. The ancient city of Fes also boasts the largest medina in the world – with its maze of dark alleyways and streets.

On the North African Atlantic seaboard side is the largest Moroccan city of Casablanca with its large mosque, Hassan II. It is the largest mosque in Africa and the seventh largest in the world. The mosque is built predominantly over the Atlantic Ocean with the seabed visible from the glass floor. The Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla sit on the northern shores of Morocco’s Mediterranean coast.

Typical of the Muslim culture is the hospitality afforded to visitors and travelers alike. And while there are more active cell phones than people in Morocco, please do not misjudge this very social and engaging people. But if Arabic, Berber or Darija is not your tongue, then French or Spanish will get you far while photographing the beautiful faces and culture here.
