San Francisco

San Francisco

Hey Dude! Did you know that San Francisco's most famous resident is not even human? But his name is “Karl” – the perennial dense and shallow fog that envelopes the Bay area. Karl even has a Twitter account with hundreds of thousands of followers. However you may feel about this ubiquitous native phenomenon, it can dress the Golden Gate City more stunningly than a model in a Versace spring collection.

Rather than finding the right words for this City by the Bay, I thought we can let others do it for us: “San Francisco is the only city I can think of that can survive all the things you people are doing to it and still look beautiful” (Frank Sinatra). “To a traveler paying his first visit, it has the interest of a new planet” (Robin Williams). “I’m just mad for San Francisco. It is like London and Paris stacked on top of each other” (George Sterling).

While you may have your own feelings about Baghdad by the Bay, one thing is certain – it is unlike any great cosmopolitan city in America! And it comes as no surprise that many compare it to a European city such as Paris or Madrid or London. Although, it is its Asian population that stands out: its Chinatown is the oldest in North America and its Japantown is the largest in the United States. For all its charm however, San Francisco also suffers from desperate homelessness. Roughly, half of its homeless population are unsheltered!
